Privacy Policy

Divided We Fall®, a District of Columbia nonprofit corporation, is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. In order to operate this website,  (the “Site”), we collect certain information. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we collect, what we do with it, with whom we share it, and how you can correct or change such information.

This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected through the Site and via phone or email based on the contact information on the Site, but not to information collected or obtained from other sources. See Links to Other Sites below. 

The types of information we collect about you:  

Personal Information:  Personally Identifiable Information (“Personal Information”) is any information that can be used to identify a specific individual. The only Personal Information that we collect is whatever Personal Information is included in emails you send to us via the Site, when you use the Subscribe feature to receive communications from us, when you send us User Submissions (as such term is defined in the Terms of Use), or when you submit credit card information in order to make a donation via DonorBox or purchase merchandise. Credit card information is collected by Stripe, our third-party merchandise fulfillment and payment processing vendor.

Aggregate and Anonymous Data:  Aggregate and anonymous data is information collected automatically through the operation of the Site, as well as certain information about website usage which we aggregate and use in a manner that does not identify you personally (collectively, “Non-Identifying Data”).  We may collect usage data (such as which pages of the Site you visit and in what sequence) through the use of various technologies.  For example, we may collect IP addresses from individuals who access the Site. We do not link IP addresses to any Personal Information, so although your session may be logged, you will remain anonymous to us.  During some visits, we may use software tools, such as Javascript and/or Google Analytics, to measure and collect session information, including page response times, download errors, time spent on certain pages, page interaction information, and methods used to browse away from the page.  These analytics features do not collect Personal Information.

Use of Cookies and Similar Technologies:  Like many providers of Internet services, we may use “cookies” or other similar technologies to collect Non-Identifying Data.  Cookies allow us to measure traffic activity throughout the Site and to improve your user experience. Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies.  If you prefer, you can set your web browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent, but it is possible that some parts of the Site will not function properly if you do so.  In addition, we may use a service that collects data remotely by using so-called “pixel tags,” “web beacons,” “clear GIFs” or similar means (collectively, “Pixel Tags”) embedded in website content.  A Pixel Tag is an electronic image, often a single pixel (1×1), that is ordinarily not visible to site visitors and may be associated with cookies on the visitors’ hard drives.  This information is Non-Identifying Data.

Our Use of The Information We Collect From You:

Personal Information:  We will use your Personal Information to respond to inquiries from you, to inform you about our activities, or to protect against or identify possible fraudulent transactions.

Non-Identifying Data:  We may also use Personal Information in aggregate form for purposes of research or analysis.  We may share this type of Non-Identifying Data with a variety of third parties, including our affiliates, agents, research partners and current and prospective business partners.  We may use Non-Identifying Data collected from the Site for administration, advertising and promotional purposes, and we may share such information with various affiliated and unaffiliated entities for such purposes.

Third-Party Advertisers: In order to make the Site available free of charge, we accept advertising from third parties. These advertisers may place or use cookies, web beacons or other technologies to collect statistical information about you and your use of the Site in order to deliver advertisements that may be of interest to you. The use and collection of your information by third-party advertisers and their advertising servers is not covered by this Privacy Policy. To limit third-party tracking of your online activity and targeted advertising, you can opt out of third-party cookies by setting your web browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent.  As noted above, it is possible that some parts of the Site will not function properly if you do so.

Sharing Your Personal Information:  Except as stated in this Privacy Policy, we do not disclose your Personal Information to third parties without first informing you and obtaining your consent to having your Personal Information shared.

We may disclose your Personal Information to third parties without informing you in connection with the following:

Business-related Functions: Like many businesses, we may hire other companies to perform certain services on our behalf such as hosting specific portions of the Site or maintaining databases or processing credit cards.  When we employ a third party to perform these functions, that third party will be provided only with the particular Personal Information it needs to perform its function.  

Other Disclosures:  In addition, we may disclose Personal Information without providing you with the ability to opt out under the following limited circumstances:

  • (1) protect the legal rights, privacy or safety of Divided We Fall®, its members, officers, employees and agents;
  • (2) protect the safety and security of other users of the Site;
  • (3) protect against fraud or other illegal activity or for risk management purposes;
  • (4) respond to inquiries or requests from public authorities;
  • (5) permit us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain; 
  • (6) enforce our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy; or
  • (7) comply with the law or legal process.

Links to Other Sites:  The Site may also contain links to other sites that may not follow the same privacy policy as Divided We Fall®. These sites may send their own cookies to you and may collect data and make use of that data in ways that we would not.  Once you have left the Site, this Privacy Policy will no longer apply to Personal Information or any other data collected from or provided by you on another site.  You should check the applicable privacy policy to determine how that site will handle such data.

If you have previously provided Personal Information to us and are receiving emails or other communications from us and you do not want to continue receiving such emails, please notify us by contacting us at If you ask that we stop using your Personal Information, we will take reasonable steps to honor that request on a prospective basis.

If you reside in a member state of the European Economic Area, you may have the right under applicable law to exercise certain privacy rights.  Among these rights are the right of access, the right of rectification, the right not to consent or to withdraw previously-provided consent, the right of erasure, the right to object to processing, and the right to restrict processing.

Our Commitment to Data Security:  We take reasonable security precautions to secure the Personal Information that you choose to provide against the loss, misuse, alteration or unauthorized access of such information.  Unfortunately, no transmission of data over the Internet is guaranteed to be completely secure.  It may be possible for third parties, not under our control, to intercept or access transmissions or private communications unlawfully.  While we strive to protect your Personal Information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any Personal Information you transmit to us.  Any such transmission is done at your own risk.  If you believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please notify us of the problem by contacting us at  If we learn of a security systems breach, then we may attempt to notify you electronically so that you can take appropriate protective steps. We may post a notice on the Site if a security breach occurs. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to receive notice of a security breach in writing.
